3) What are merits and the demerits of a dual VVTi engine over the normal VVTi? Merits: as stated earlier, with Dual VVTi the engine is very smooth, and it is possible to eke out even more miles for every gallon of fuel used. Demerits: a more complex engine. It might not necessarily be more prone to failure, but simple jobs such as head removal
The V35A-FTS is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 gasoline engine debuted in 2017 with the fifth-generation Lexus LS 500. This new member of Toyota's Dynamic Force engine family is the first turbocharged V-engine in Toyota's history. In the near future, the manufacturer will stop using all V8 engines (1UR-FE, 3UR-FE) in Toyota and Lexus vehicles
The 1GR-FE engine has an aluminum cylinder block in a V arrangement at a bank angle of 60°. This engine's firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6. Cylinder bore and piston stroke are 94.0 mm (3.7 in) and 95.0 mm (3.74 in), respectively. Compression ratio rating is 10.0:1 or 10.4:1. The engine has "spiny type" cast-iron cylinder liners.
1. Dual VVT-i. The dual VVT-I system adjusts timing on the intake and exhaust camshafts. This technology was first introduced in 1998 on the RS200 Altezza's 3S-GE engine. It is also found on Toyota's new generation V6 engine, the 3.5L 2GR-FE that debuted on the 2005 Toyota Avalon.
Sounds to me something to do with the cams. maybe the timing of the engine is out of whack and the internals are whacking each other which hopefully it isn't. Im no expert so I wouldn't fully think this is the issue just an assumption with issues with Dual vvti. The timing chain, chain tensioners, rocker arms, valve springs, vvti cams gears, etc
Toyota 4.0 1GR-FE Engine Problems and Malfunctions. The first, pre-styled engine with a single VVTi had no problem of widespread oil leakage through the oil lines at all. However, on a car engine with a fairly high mileage, if overheating occurs, sometimes damage to the cylinder head gasket occurs.
